Medical ID? There's an app for that.

Did you know that if your iPhone/iPad has iOS 8 or above you can use the Medical ID feature, which provides personal health information in an emergency?

The Medical ID feature can be edited to include a custom photograph, name, date of birth, a list of medical conditions, your allergies, reactions and medications, blood type, height and weight and whether you're an organ donor - and notes for good measure.

It can also be programmed to display your emergency contact with their name, number, and relationship to you, so there's no chance of the emergency services accidentally ringing up your ex. It can be set up using the new Health app, and can be accessed by whomever finds you in a perilous situation first without them having to enter your password.

The downside is that anyone who finds your phone doesn't need a password to find out all this personal information, as its available from your lock screen - but you can upload as much or as little information as you like. You can also select it to only be available from the app instead, in case you don't fancy any old Tom, Dick or Harry who comes across your phone knowing all your secrets.

How to set up Medical ID on your iPhone

1. Open up the 'Health' app on your iPhone.

Step1

2. At the bottom of this screen, there will be four different options. Tap the option in the bottom right corner, labelled Medical ID.

Step2

3. The next screen will allow you to create your own Medical ID. At the top, you can select the 'Show When Locked' option to allow anyone to access the information without the password.

Step3

4. Underneath this, you can fill in your medical information, by editing your picture, name and all the details listed above.

Step4

5. Scroll down to view the other information you can add, such as your blood type, allergies, and that all important emergency contact.

Step5

6. When you're finished just tap 'Done' in the top right hand corner to view the completed Medical ID.

How to view Medical ID without inputting a passcode/password

If you selected 'Show When Locked', you can see the information the way it will be displayed in an emergency.

1. First try to unlock your phone to bring up either the passcode or the password screen. There will be an emergency button on this screen, either in the bottom left hand corner if you are using a passcode, or at the top of the screen if you're using a password.

Step7

2. Tap 'Emergency' to take you to the 'Emergency Call' screen.

Step8

3. In the bottom left corner in red writing will be the words, 'Medical ID'. Tap this to be taken to your I.D. page, which will show the information you listed.

The whole of our team adhere to the same values, beliefs and policies - the principles that were written when Transcendit first formed in 2000. Whether you come to us for a refurbished computer, cloud services or recovery backup you can be confident that you'll always receive the same excellent service.

The Transcendit way outlines how we do business; following the same straightforward principles with every client and customer, regardless of how big or small they may be.

That means we get to know you and your business. We offer you a friendly, professional and efficient service, and we'll always be honest with you.
We understand that not everybody speaks fluent IT, so we try to explain things in a way that is simple and clear. We always spend as much time as is necessary explaining things to you.
If you need to talk to us about something, no matter how insignificant, we are only ever a phone call away – and we’re never too busy to make you a cup of tea and have a sit down with you in person.
We understand how frustrating it can be when things are late. When we schedule an appointment with you, we are there when you’re expecting us. If something prevents us from getting there, we always call you in advance to let you know.
Sometimes things can go wrong, but we never lie to you or try to cover something up. If things go askew we tell you what’s happened and how we plan to prevent it affecting your business.
We want you to continuously benefit from working with us. We regularly discuss your business and make suggestions for improving systems and processes wherever we can – but we never try to push you into a purchase.
When we quote a fixed price, that's always the amount we charge – you won’t find any nasty surprises on a bill from us. If you are paying by time and materials, we inform you if our approximations could change.
We understand the importance of privacy for your business and your customers. We respect the confidentiality of your data, and we will never pass on your information to third parties.
We appreciate it when you take the time to give us feedback. A system called CustomerSure records our client's responses, so you can trust that our reviews are from real people.

Very friendly and helpful. Doesn't presume that you know much but at the same time doesn't speak to you as if you know nothing. Very pleased with my contact. Christine Gibbs, KSA Group Ltd
