What are servers and networks?
A server is a system responsible for sharing resources. Resources can include things like line-of-business applications, internal databases, email, websites, file storage and printing. A server can allow more than one person in your organisation to share a single resource, or see and work on the most up to date version of a file. A server can be on site, co-located or even Cloud-based.
A network is a collection of computers that can communicate with one another. These can be internal networks (between computers in your office) or external networks (like the internet), but are usually a combination of the two. For example, an office network will be connected to the Internet for shared web browsing and email access.
Why are my servers and networks important?
Your business relies on your servers and networks, and so they must be resilient. These systems need to be well managed, maintained and properly protected. They can also be safeguarded by having a business continuity and disaster recovery plan, so that if something happens to your systems your business can carry on.
